A Helping Hands Opportunity
by Sis. Ann Castleton
Sisters Sandy Simiskey, Michelle Chua and Jackie Lai, traveled to KK (Kandang Kerbau) Children's Hospital on May 4, 2006, to present some Toa Payoh Ward Relief Society sisters' hand crocheted pre-mature baby's beanie hats. In all, 73 hats were completed and donated under the direction of Sister Simiskey who has a history of making and donating such beanies to her local hospital in Texas where her home is located.
These beanies, crocheted by the members of the Toa Payoh Ward Relief Society, were warmly received by the Sister Nurse in the KK Hospital who indicated that they do have a real need for such hats. The hospital had not been able to fine any to purchase in the market. Hence, they had been sewing and/or improvising some themselves using other materials. It is necessary for the preemie babies’ heads to be covered.
They were pleased when our Relief Society sisters offered to make more should they need them. It was a wonderful experience to be able to find a need and fill it with the sisters and resources that are available.
