Whatever It Takes - A Dancer's Experience
By Germaine Yee

Many of Zion’s youth in the Singapore stake have gotten together for the past four Saturdays (28th Oct, 4th, 11th and 18th Nov), to rehearse in a race against time as most of us will be leaving for Christmas vacations and temple trips when December pulls in.
Inspiration came in various forms such as: a vision of the entire production imparted to our extraordinary director Sister Raelene Card, as well as flashes of ideas, suggestions from youth and leaders.
To date, all the dance items have been choreographed (by Lauryn and Emily from the 1st Ward), taught, learnt, rehearsed, modified and rehearsed even more to try and achieve flawless synchronization.
However, there are times when we, being youth, engaged in ceaseless chit chat. (The ratio of YW: YM being 3:1, you get the picture.) And that is where Sister Dossier, our tentative sound system manager plus ‘discipline mistress’ tenders her trademark slogan, “Everybody listen!” in her most kindly, patient and gentle way despite having to repeat herself almost every 10 minutes.
Getting involved as a dancer in this musical has been an amazing experience for me. The dances in this production beautifully choreographed and the steps are fun.
The dancers usually meet from 9am to11am and are dismissed afterward when the entire main cast arrives for their rehearsals from 11am to 12 pm to polish their acting prowess and memorize their scripts.
Backstage and Tech crew and the choir comprise the rest of the important components of this production; the backstage and Tech crew providing support and the choir members filling the hall with their singing.
Attending rehearsals every Saturday has been spiritually renewing and uplifting. I have attended rehearsals, harboring a quiet need to be uplifted, and received manifestations of Father’s love for me and reminders of my divine worth and purpose every time. I truly believe that through this musical, Zion’s youth in the Singapore stake will be able to feel as I do.
Wait and see brothers and sisters! “Whatever it takes” will help turn our hearts to our Heavenly Father and our Savior Jesus Christ, the true and sure anchor of all our souls.
