Q: How significant this building is in your view? A: “It was more than 40 years ago that this land was dedicated for preaching the restored gospel of Jesus Christ by the then Elder Ezra Taft Benson, an Apostle of the Lord. This is one of the fulfillments of the many blessings as pronounced in the dedicatory prayer on Mount Faber. The Compassvale Chapel will be a beacon of light to the people living in the neighborhood and it will bring great blessings to the saints and the people of Singapore particularly those living within the boundaries of Ang Mo Kio and Bedok Wards.”
Q: As a former Singapore Stake President can you share your memory about the history of this building? A: “I remember we discussed this matter with the Area Presidency the need for us to build another meeting house in anticipating of the growth of the Church. They were very supportive and gave us the approval to go ahead to look for another piece of property in the northern or eastern part of Singapore. We prayerfully seek the Lord's guidance in helping us with the search for a property where we can build another chapel for the saints of Singapore to worship. With the Lord's help, we found this property several months later and we got the full support of our Priesthood Leaders to go ahead to bid for the property. To me, this building is a manifestation of the love our Heavenly Father and His Son had for the people of Singapore. It is also a testimony of the faithfulness of the Saints in paying their tithing which qualifies for the blessings. I am grateful to know that many people will have the opportunity to hear more about the plan of happiness and the restored gospel of Jesus Christ.”
Q: Can you share with us your experience when you were asked to give the dedicatory prayer? A: “When I was assigned to give the dedicatory prayer, I prayerfully and earnestly seek to know the Lord's will pertaining to this Compassvale Chapel”, says Elder Chen. “Each time as I pondered over the dedicatory prayer, I can feel the love our Heavenly Father and Savior have for the people of Singapore. I remember in the dedicatory prayer, it was mentioned that this chapel will be a place for the gathering of the Saints where they may renew their covenants with our Heavenly Father in partaking of the Sacrament and where they may learn of the Savior and His ways. It will be a place where the investigators will be taught of the eternal truths. This chapel will shed forth an aura of peace and reverence that will be felt in the neighborhood and the environment will be edified by its presence. Strong friendship will be established with the community, government and other faiths. The members will have the courage, conviction and filled with enthusiasm to share the restored gospel of Jesus Christ and the people will be receptive and embrace the gospel of Jesus Christ. The members will seek the Lord's will and they may find joy in their service. I feel honored to be assigned to offer the dedicatory prayer and to know that the promises and blessings pronounced will be fulfilled as promised by the Lord.”
